How It Began

How It Began

From a one-man computer repair service to an AI-powered IT company — three decades of evolution.

The Computer Handyman (1996)

It all started in 1996, when Danny launched The Computer Handyman — a one-man operation built on a simple idea: people and small businesses needed someone they could trust to fix their computers, set up their networks, and explain technology in plain English.

In those early days, it was house calls, small offices, and word-of-mouth referrals. No corporate overhead, no sales pitch — just showing up, solving the problem, and earning the next call.

Computer Handyman — The Storefront Years

As the business grew, so did its name and presence. The Computer Handyman became simply Computer Handyman, and the brand evolved with a new identity to match the expanding services being offered.

The operation moved into a retail storefront at the corner of Pelham Road and Highway 14 in Greenville, SC — a real brick-and-mortar shop where customers could walk in, drop off their machines, and get face-to-face support from someone who genuinely cared about solving their problem.

The Storefront

For years, the shop at Pelham and 14 was a fixture in the Greenville community. It was the place you brought your laptop when it would not boot, where you got honest advice on whether to repair or replace, and where small businesses came to get set up with their first real network.

In 2017, the physical storefront closed its doors — but the mission and the service never stopped. The work simply continued in the way it had always been done best: going directly to the client, understanding their needs, and delivering solutions.

My IT Dept. — The Next Chapter

What started as one person fixing computers has evolved into My IT Dept. — a full-service, AI-powered IT company built for the modern business landscape.

The name tells the story of the progression: from a small handyman you might call when something broke, to a growing, integral piece of your business that you depend on every single day.

The tools have changed. The technology has advanced. But the foundation remains exactly the same — show up, solve the problem, earn the trust.

Three Decades. One Mission.

From 1996 to today, the name on the door has changed — but the commitment never has. Whether it was The Computer Handyman making house calls, Computer Handyman at the shop on Pelham Road, or My IT Dept. deploying AI-powered solutions across the Upstate, the goal has always been the same: make technology work for people, not the other way around.
